One of the items that caught my attention and is important for mobile workers are the security layers this laptop has incorporated. Fujitsu provides an embedded security tool - the Fujitsu Trusted Platform Module - which remembers all your passwords and can be integrated easily with other security measuures. The Smart Card Reader provides support for a variety of third-party applications, which should cover just any circumstance a mobile worker will face. The final layer of security is the integrated Security Panel which has more than 800,000 possible password combinations that can be either supervisor or user level.
As always, laptops which provide a variety of options for connections are high on my list. Not only does the Fujitsu LifeBook S7010D have integrated Wi-Fi with an antenna off/on switch and certified 802.11b/g. Bluetooth wireless PAN is available as an option and provides users with another method of file transfer and data synchronization. For times when mobile workers rely on dial-up access or an Ethernet based network, ports are provided. Last but not least, the S7010D has an infrared port which can be used for transferring files, data synchronization and printing.
The battery life is quite good for an ultraportable. 4.8 hours with main battery and using a modular bay battery operating time increases to 8.5 hours.
For mobile workers traveling overseas, they needn't worry about carrying an electrical adapter as the S7010D has auto-sensing voltage support.
